As the name implies, the Digital Resource Centre is more than just a bibliographic citation but actually provide digitized contents to patrons/ users. It is more than a coordinated collection of services, which are based on collections of materials. Increasingly, as materials move on-line, there will be potential access mechanisms for anyone. It will possess web-based user interface and designed in a way that is described as a “database driven site”. This means that behind the resource centre, there is a database that holds all the Islamic contents and when a user searches particular information, the database responds by collecting the information from its records and then builds up the content to be presented to the user. The database driven library will be built using unique Islamic thesaurus that holds 30,000 descriptors to the Islamic information placed in the database. Thus, the database shall respond accurately and efficiently with relevant Islamic information elements (Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, etc).

This fully integrated DIRECT is to achieve the following objectives:

(a)  Provide a reliable and secure system for JAKIM to provide authenticated information to Muslim and non-Muslim communities around the world. The DIRECT will become a focal point for JAKIM to develop, host and disseminate information through web-based system. The content will undergo strict quality assurance and authentication process prior to hosting.

(b)   The DIRECT shall be able to provide full digitization, authoring and publishing of old Islamic heritage materials i.e. manuscripts, providing full subject matter expert for quality assurance and content authentication certification, and development of digital Islamic materials.

(c)    Provide easy mechanism for users to search, retrieve and analyse knowledge information from the database of DIRECT using advanced and sophisticated methodology and tools.
